City Service Project 2011

We helped the City by stacking the picnic tables in the shelter at the City Park to help store them for Winter.

Winter Boutique 2011

This is the second year that the RCCD has supported the Winter Boutique and we are excited! Tami Zeller, a wonderfully talented woman from our community, is in charge of this fun event. She is still looking for vendors and hopes that this will provide local business and talent a place to advertise and sell their product. This is also a really great place to pick up ALL last minute gifts for family and friends for Christmas!

Ririe Days was great this year. We had several events that happened and many participants. We gave several prizes and had a lot of fun. We had craft booths and food vending and carnival games. We would like to thank all of the many people who volunteered their time to make this a good day!

We are happy to support the Senior Citizen Center in all of their activities. They consistently support us in all of our events. This looked like a super fun luncheon!! Everyone got to dress up while having a great lunch. Thanks for sharing your event with us!!

Easter Egg Hunt

We had a great time at the Easter Egg Hunt. We partnered with the Ririe Fire Department to host this great event. With nearly 3000 eggs filled with candy and prizes, the children had a great time. We had about 300 people attend this year.

We had a great time at the community dinner! We were able to meet and talk about those things the RCCD needs help with throughout the year. We are hoping that we will be able to continue most of the activities that we have sponsored in the past.

As a board we would like to thank all of you who came, ate, and participated with us to discuss what you would like to see happen in and around Ririe and for those of you who have volunteered to help out with our activities.

We would also like to thank Ririe's One Stop for providing the delicious meal as well as the Senior Citizens for allowing us to meet at and use the Senior Citizen's Center.

If you were unable to come to the dinner and would still like to volunteer please just let a member of the RCCD Board know.

SPRING INTO YOUR COMMUNITY Free Community Dinner

The board of directors: Annika Davey (Chairperson), Whitney Summers (Secretary), Eric Bennion (Treasurer), Mandy Simmons (Media), Shari Sellers (Member), Jason Averill (Member), Kathleen Berrett (Member) are seeking help for the events that go on throughout the year. We are in desperate need of volunteers.

Some of the things we need help with are: Easter Egg Hunt, Ririe Days, Halloween Spooktacular, RYAC (Ririe Youth Advisory Council), Newsletters, Community Beautification, etc. We are also looking for board members who would like to fill a position and those who would just like to be members.

We hope that at this community dinner we will be able to generate support and volunteers. If we can't get anyone to step up then all of these will end.

Be Your Best Self

This year's Ririe Jr. Miss, Alexis Brown, approached us with a need for help with their "Be Your Best Self" service project. Every year the program undertakes a service project that supports their be your best self platform. This year they heard of a family that lost their senior age daughter to a car wreck one morning before school. The mother, who works at the school, went to look for Alex when she didn't show up for school. She found her several feet from where her pick up had rolled and thrown her out. She had tried to answer a text and lost control. Alex passed away from her injuries. The family now has a foundation (rememberalexbrownfoundation.org ) that allows them to take her truck, on a trailer, to different schools and teach them about texting and driving and distracted driving. They have a pledge for drivers to sign to not text and drive. Along with the pledge they hand out custom thumb bands with the intention that if you go to text and drive and are wearing the band you will remember the pledge and not text. Because of the popularity of the foundation and thumb bands, the Jr. Miss program was unable to get bands from them. Alexis came to our group and asked if we would support their project and help them get bands. We purchased 1000 custom bands. The Jr. Miss program, through Alexis, has worked with our high school to educate students and teachers.
Alexis spoke to the drivers education classes and then set up a booth at lunch. She also encouraged our board to all sign the pledge. We did and wear our thumb bands proudly.

The Winter Boutique went great for the first year. We had 21 different vendors and consistent showing from the public. We appreciate the support and hope that next year will only improve!! Thank you to the great group that put this event together!!

We are supporting local businesses, talent, and artists by helping to put together a chance where they can all come together for one purpose-to show and share with the public. This years Spooktacular was AWESOME!! The city closed main street for us and we had soooo many people participate. We gave out 1,2,3 place prizes for adult costumes, kid costumes, decorated trunks, and jack o' lantern carving. Thanks to everyone who supported this great event!!

RYAC: Ririe Youth Advisory Council. This is a community youth group that focuses on service and leadership training. "Youth of Today...Leaders of Tomorrow" we symbolize uniqueness, individuality, creativity, and belonging. We do service projects year round, go to leadership training weekends, do fundraisers, etc. We are looking for members from 7th grade through the age of 21. We wanted a voice and now we have one.

Ririe Days 2010

Ririe Days are a celebration of our heritage, talents, resources, friends, neighbors, and culture. We have a 1/2 marathon, 10K, 5K, and fun run. A runner's breakfast put on by the RYAC youth group. An amazing flag ceremony. A golf scramble. An archery shoot. A car show, craft show, antique show, and entertainment. We have food booths and kids carnival games. A dutch oven cook off and prizes. We have an adult pitching machine play off and big kid trike races. The fire department sprays everyone off when it is sooooo hot and the RCCD has a raffle. There is so much going on and there is something for everyone!! Ririe Days is held on the 3rd Saturday in July. Visit www.ririedays.com for more information.

We would love to hear from anyone interested in community development. We host several events and have several action teams that work throughout the year and could always use more volunteers and help.

This year RCCD is hosting it's 3rd annual community trunk or treat. We work with the City to close main street so that community members can park on both sides of the road. We invite a local organization to host a fund raising dinner in conjunction with our event.

Wednesday in the Park: Lost River Ramblers

The Lost River Ramblers were amazing. People danced, talked, sang along, and visited. We had a really good turn out of all ages and everyone had a good time. Many even bought CD's to play year round.

Wednesday in the Park: Jeremy and Kenny

Jeremy and Kenny are two of our local high school choir performers. They sing together beautifully and their friends joined in the fun to help entertain us. Our community loves Wednesdays in the Park. It is a free event for everyone who likes a little entertainment. People bring dinner, snacks, blankets, and friends.

The belly dancers were so much fun. The kids got to give it a try and the crowd got involved with the music. We had a really good time with a lot of great people.
